Lunch and an afternoon walking around Notting Hill
There was something I had on my ‘to do’ list whilst in London and it was to take a walk around the streets of Notting Hill. So one day when my brother and nephew went to Chelsea Football Stadium {never had any plans to go with them!!}, I walked from our Airbnb apartment in Kensington to Notting Hill which is about a fifteen minute walk, strolling along beautiful streets and wonderful homes; all white and black!
It was lovely summer weather in London; around the low 20’s [degrees celsius] so good walking weather. Strolling past lovely homes with gorgeous little gardens and pot plants something I just loved around the London area. And then peering into little cobblestone streets, past wrought iron gates to brightly painted doors. Then after about an hour I was feeling a little hungry so stopped off at a lovely little brasserie.Once inside I ordered my usual drinks; sparkling mineral water and glass of white wine…and then found out there was free wifi – yay because the cost of international roaming on the phone is way too expensive. Seeing the London red double-decker bus go past was ‘so London’…lovely!I ordered the asparagus and pea risotto and a plate of fresh tomatoes with olive oil and onion. The risotto was absolutely delicious but way too much so only ate half of that. The sourdough bread and the fresh tomatoes were incredible and it’s a shame I was too full to eat more of both, but I certainly ate my share.I sat for a while and just enjoyed the atmosphere then it was time to leave as that evening I was going to the West End to see Les Miserables, my absolute favourite musical which I have now seen five times; once on Broadway, twice in Sydney, once in Melbourne and this time at West End…probably enough shows for a while as it’s got to the stage where I am crying even before Fantene passes away!!
I did manage to take a photo of the stage before the show started which was a huge illustration of a troubled looking young girl (Fantene’s daughter Cosette) used to market Les Miserables all around the world.

Fabulous! I literally felt the chilly London weather while reading about your walk from Kensington to Notting Hill (because for a Nicoise, under 20 degrees is chilly…). I love everywhere with cobblestones, it gives so much of a charm to places! You must have had a wonderful time in London. But Sue, les Miserables 5 times ???!!!!!! OMG you’re an addict, hahahaha! I hope you had a safe journey back home too.

Les Misérables is my favourite musical, though I haven’t seen it on stage yet. By the sounds of it, it’s really quite something! Côte is a great little brasserie – they’re in a few other cities across the UK now, and are one of my favourite spots to go when I eat out.

Tomatoes and olive oil is one of my favorite home dishes. When in work in England 1988-1992 I went to the Notting Hill festival. There were reggae bands on every corner and I’d walk down a block bouncing to the beat of one band until I segued into the sound of the next band and picked up their beat, usually very similar with reggae music. It was a blast. This year the festival is late August: https://www.timeout.com/london/things-to-do/notting-hill-carnival-guide

A beautiful area. That meal looked delicious. Imagine if Hugh Grant had walked in whilst you were there. 🙂
I’ve seen Phantom a few times, and have the music on LP and CD. I don’t match your devotion to Les Mis, though.

The meal in the charming cafe and the scenery of black and white, with pops of color were so nice to see!
I enjoy Les Mis, but have only seen it at the movies.
I’m at the age, My Fair Lady and Camelot are my favorite plays I’ve seen on stage. I saw the first with Richard Chamberlain as Professor Higgins, the second had great singing and lovely acting but am not sure anyone famous! 😊💐

I kept thinking of Hugh funnily enough. Ha ha. I saw Phantom a few years ago. Was good but still love Les Mis.

Thank you. I saw My Fair Lady in Sydney last year on the stage but I am sure nothing like the one you saw. How thrilling to see R Chamberlain.
