Dinner at a refurbished bank in Wellington
Logan Brown restaurant opened in 1996 and is located in the former Bank of New Zealand building on Cuba street. It’s a grand restaurant where my friend Jane and I had a truly lovely evening.
It’s a pretty small restaurant really with a lovely bar area, huge columns, ornate ceilings and dark wooden floorboards that add to the ambience of this lovely place.
We had made a reservation as knew it was required due to it’s popularity and when we arrived, we were seated at an intimate table and whilst I took a walk around to take some photos, Jane ordered us a glass of wine.
The waitress was particularly helpful with my request to have vegetarian dishes without cheese and in the end I ordered a side dish as an entree which was the Logan Brown fried cauliflower with spiced yoghurt. Very tasty!! Jane ordered the Ceviche fish dish with lemon cream, citrus, palm sugar and coriander. Also delicious.
The food at this restaurant is sourced from sustainable ingredients and we were told that whenever possible ingredients are local, seasonal, organic and Fairtrade.
For our main courses Jane ordered the venison with braised osso bucco, malted parsnip and apple and I ordered the risotto bianco which had summer broad beans and truffled peas. I love risotto and this was very good.
And…of course the obligatory chips (which I must say Jane didn’t eat-so I did!!)
And lastly a cup of coffee and a peppermint tea…a wonderful night with a good friend; great atmosphere and lovely food.

Oooh, that is pretty much as good as it gets for a restaurant in Welly!

As ever the food looks delicious, it’s very common here now to find pubs and restaurants in former banks.

So nice once again, Sue ! Would you please give me a lesson of etiquette ? When you go to such a chic place whether in New Zealand or in Australia, and order some chips, are you required “by etiquette” to eat them with a fork or can you go in with fingers ? If it may sound like a strange question to you, but I think in France we would only use a fork in such a place…

Hi Sophie. Posh restaurants definitely a fork and I pull a few from the bowl and put them in my plate. In a pub it’s ok to use your fingers I think as it’s a much more casual setting but must say I don’t like licking my fingers so always ensure there is a napkin available. I think that is better manners. You are right what you do in France – definitely a fork for posh restaurants.

Yummy~ I’d love to try the fried cauliflower with spiced yogurt! Most of the time I see cauliflower as ‘boring food’, but not this time! Cheers~

Good to know, thanks for all explanations and details! I like to know the manners when traveling to a new country – and even though Australia unfortunately isn’t yet crossed on my 2017 calendar, it’s good I already have a chance to ask someone from there that I trust (you!) 🙂
